I am hoping someone can give me some help regarding an issue with network problems on a Pi 2. I gave this one to a relative to use running openelec. I set it up at my house with a wired connection and never could get the automatic network configuration to work so I entered in a manual IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and dns server and could connect with no issues.
When my sister got it to her house she connected it with a wired connection and could not get it to work. I had her do an IP config on her laptop and entered in the information into the openelec settings. Still no connection. She called the cable company that provides her internet and they had her set it to automatic and said the pi shows up on the router but that was about all the help they gave. She asked about specifying the ip address and was told she couldn’t do that without paying extra for a static ip address. Does this sound correct? The internet provider is Brighthouse and the modem/router is an Arriss brand. I can give more detailed information if needed to help solve. I think this a router problem since it worked fine at my house but I don’t know what to tell her to try next.
I had her do an IP config /all on her laptop and the results are as follows:
IPv4 Address 192.168.0.11
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 192.168.0.1
DHCP Server 192.168.0.1
DNS Servers 75.114.81.1
75.114.81.2
In the openelec settings I had her enter in all the info above except to change the IP to 192.168.0.56. I just picked a random number I thought would not be used for anything else.
I know the PI works so I think there is a setting in the router but I don’t know what to tell her to look for. Whatever she does will probably have to be changed by the cable provider since I doubt she has ever logged into the router at all. I am trying to get an idea of what they may need to change on the router to get it going. The modem/router is an Arris TG1682G.
Thanks for the help and let me know what other info you might need for me to provide.
