I’m requesting that when enabling the AC3 passthrough option, it also enables the E-AC3 passthrough option, eg. change the line item to something like “Dolby Digital (AC3) and/or Dolby Digital Plus (E-AC3) based receiver”. Currently (7.0 Beta 5) on S/PDIF setups Kodi only allows AC3 and DTS passthough, there are no further options, so if you were to playback a file with 5.1 Dolby Digital Plus, it would only output at 2 channel PCM. This also affects HDMI users when passing through in non-WASAPI mode
Dolby Digital Plus is fully backwards compatible with Dolby Digital based equipment, so if you send a 5.1 Plus signal to a non-Plus receiver, it will decode the regular 5.1 Dolby classic “core” contained within. There should be no reason to split the two options up, as everything will be handled on the receiver by design
