HI all
I’m wondering if someone can help me. This has been happening for many months (probably over a year). Normally all good, but if I leave the media centre unused for a while (>2 hours, but more usually over night), when I start a video file, either the audio is gone, or after about 20s, it drops out. Sometimes completely, sometimes pops in and out a bit, but ultimately its gone. The only reasonably reliable resolution is shutting down, turning off the amp and TV, then restarting cold. Sometimes if I go into the audio context menu and flick on and off options like passthru or stereo upmix a few times it will come back, but it isn’t reliable. Even rebooting sometimes takes 2 goes before audio works reliably again.
Kodi on an Intel NUC, HDMI through to an Onkyo amp, then on to an LG TV, all HDMI. I’ve got passthru turned off, and the amp configured for multichannel. ARC and CEC is turned on between the TV, amp and Chromecast (also polugged into the amp). I’ve tried changing HDMI cables, no change. And swapped Kodi with the Chromecast device ports on the amp. The problem follows Kodi, never occurs for Chromecast, nor on the ARC signal.
I can see the Multichannel message on the amp disappearing and reappearing when the issue occurs, so I obviously thinks there’s a problem with the signal. Never does this for Chromecast, signal is stable and reliable. Video signal is bulletproof stable, never an issue ever with that even when the audio is playing up.
Given all this, I’m not sure if its the amp or Kodi, but seems more likely Kodi as the Chromecast and ARC are fine.
I’ve waded through the various system logs/kern/etc and cannot see anything obvious at the hardware layer. I’ve captured a debug level Kodi log, which does ‘handlesyncerror’ and ‘discontinuity’ messages around the right time. But I’ve no idea whether they mean anything.
I’m very happy to upload, or pastebin the log if someone is interested in helping me, which way should I publish the log file? Would really appreciate any pointers as its driving me nuts, and I’ve no idea what to look for next!
Col.
