Kodi woes

I have been a happy camper – although a casual user not a tweaking expert – for years with XBMC and a home theater user for decades.
Migrated from soundgraph, Windows Media Center, Media portal etc… tried almost everything.
Fixed the minor issues with the green button and rewind (i needed only a second or two to catch a phrase) and was happy.
I only use XBMC/Kodi as a frontend to watch videos. No TV recordings, music, photo viewer, programs, games … weather…
Recently some of the material I watch (documentaries, series) started to appear in the good looking but dreaded HEVC/h265 format.
Problem!
XBMC doesn’t support it, I needed to upgrade to KODI. OK, no big deal. I have a minute box with an ATHLON 4 core APU, SSD, 4gb ram and a trimmed down version of Win7.
What could go wrong eh?
1. My rewind tweaking went. Had to fix that. I use an original MCE remote control.
2. 1080 H265 video stutters, looses frames so bad that it’s useless.
3. h264 encoded video (1080) goes slowly out of sync.
4. Kodi (Jarvis) is sluggish and slow to respond.
5. Media player classic plays everything fine!!!!

Other than investing – again – for another computer is there anything I can do to improve the situation?
