Aspect Ratio Is Off

Hi, Jason here.
new to Kodi…
my friend turned me on the amazon firestick that he said was “jailbroke” but soon after I learn that it is Kodi. So in doing research I see all these kodi “boxes” so I bought one because it can be plugged directly into the router and I can plug in wireless keyboard/mouse for more functionality as well as easier to download apps.
anyway… so I have the firestick in my bedroom and the box in living room. both rooms have basically the same tv: one 80″ Vizio M series and one 70″ Vizio M series.
BUT, the firestick shows movies in their correct aspect ratio whereas the box stretches 16:9 stuff vertically causing everyone to look stretched.
both are running Jarvis 16.1
same movie, same app, same source and all settings are identical.
not sure how to post pictures on here unfortunately..
any ideas why this is happening?
