After endless frustration with a Rockchip box, I picked up an Nvidia Shield TV in hopes to get things finally figured out.
Although things are working much better, I’m seeing very inconsistent results when switching framerates through the official Kodi 16.1 available through the play store. Sometimes it works fine and takes about 3 seconds with my Samsung LED, while other times it takes about 12 seconds and flashes screens of white noise a couple of times before usually ending up playing it. Other times playback will just halt playback after trying to do the switch and it will return to the menu. Although frequency switching was not working properly on my Rockchip box, it never had this type of issue.
Here’s a log of a normal frequency switch:

…and here’s a log of a much longer switch in the exact same file:

Unfortunately, I didn’t catch a log of the crashing during the frequency switch.
When viewing them side by side, there are some subtle differences in the log once playback of the file starts, but no errors shown relating to the playback. Can anyone offer any suggestions? Note that I also tried SPMC from the play store, and it has the same issue. It almost seems like an HDMI handshaking issue, so maybe it’s not a Kodi problem, but I can’t say that I know all that much about it.
Any thoughts?
