How to play .AVR files in Kodi ?

Hello and festive greetings to all,

Yesterday, i found an old Samsung 400 GB hard drive
which belonged to an old set-top-box.

It is filled with old movies from a decade or so and
would really like to see them again.

The problem is that they are encoded in a very odd
container – ( Name of movie.AVR ).

Searched on Google with little to go on. I enter .avr and
i get a bunch of posts with .avi and audio video receiver.

This is what i have tried to do :

– Encode files using MKVToolNix Gui which gives me the following error :

found at least one b frame without second reference in a non closed gop.

Googling a bit , found that the file is split/broken or corrupted.
The file encoded fine but was unable to play in Kodi or any other player.

– Simply changed the container from .avr to avi. Thought this
solved it for 5 seconds but Kodi just remained in paused state.
The files were visible though but unclickable. In the .avr format
there are no files at all.

– Drag and drop into Avidemux which also gave a negative :

The files use mpeg2video as a codec, which is why i do not understand why
these files refuse to play on Kodi ?

Hope you guys can solve this.
