Dac making kodi freeze

Hi, im using Kodi 16.1 and having trouble with some freezing. whenever ive used a program to put kodi out of focus and click back into kodi the program will stop responding but with sound for about 6 secounds. i have found the source of this problem to be my dac (Optoma NuForce uDAC 3). whenever it is plugged out it wont freeze. anyone know if i can change any settings for this to work, i tried mailing the dac creators but they insisted that it should have no effect on software
