I live in a country with a relatively slow internet connection which is also metered during the day and unlimited during the night.
I rent a linux server with highspeed internet on which I run a PLEX server. I consume my media using multiple PLEX clients both at home and on the go (I travel a lot). I suffer from the limited speed when I am in my home country (and I tend to stream my media at night when the traffic is not metered) and so I am limited to lower quality streaming, but when I am travelling I enjoy HD streaming.
I have setup a RPI3 with KODI (OPENELEC) at home and I want to use it as my main media center. Now since I am limited by my internet connection what I would like to do is setup schedules to “clone”/sync/import the media I store on my remote linux server(running the plex server) to hard drives I have connected to my RPI3. The media will be downloaded to these drives during a schedule which I can set (in order to benefit from the unlimited traffic at night). This way I will be able to consume my media (which is now local) at a higher quality on KODI when I am at home; and keep streaming it from my server using plex when I am on the go.
I hope I have expressed my goal clearly.
I am new to KODI. I have read many forums and posts but I just can’t seem to find the best solution.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheers
