Setup question – fan art backgrounds

Apologies in advance if this is a really basic thing I’m missing – I’ve done a search and can’t seem to find my problem anywhere though!
Newcomer to Kodi (came from plex) and I’m finding the options a little overwhelming…
I’m using the Netflix view for browsing through movies & tv shows, but for some reason the fan art that displays is not relevant to the movie or tv show that is currently selected – i.e. the title, poster and info is all for a particular item, but the fan art is completely random. In tv shows, once I select a show and am at season/episode level it’s as I expected, but at the show/movie level it’s random.
I’d made the assumption that allowing the “randomise” option would randomise when there were multiple images for show A or movie A, it would shuffle through those while that show or movie is selected, but instead it seems to be totally random?
I’ve played around with the settings>skin>background settings but can’t get it working as I expected. Is it even possible to do this?
