Black screen fixed but would like help..

Hi chaps…

First things first…. Happy new year to everyone…

My install of 15.2 on my 1st gen firetv non-rooted has been working like a dream,…. up until a few days ago, where i was met with a black screen.
Regardless of what I did, kodi would not go any further than this black screen.

After going into settings on the firetv I noticed that the cache was well over a gig in size,…. and I read that to fix the black screen I would need to clear the cache… (not knowing that I would lose all my settings as well).

My only addons are iplayer, and youtube, as well as “Backup” “Log Viewer” and Ariel screensaver.
Along with firestarter v 3.2.3.
I just wanted to know if there was a way of being warned when the cache reaches a certain size and if it was possible to shrink the cache without having to resort to wiping it totally.
I can see how the cache could have reached this size as kodi is being served via my WD nas,… and although I do a monthly clean of the library, It still didn’t stop this black screen from occurring.
I did try the manual stopping of kodi first to see if that would help, and at first I thought kodi was going to load, but it did not help.

It would be great if there was some type of addon that I could keep running in the backgroud to keep a check on the cache, or if there was a way of manually clearing the cache without losing my settings.

I do have a small 250gb HD that is used for 4 or 5 mp3 albums via my router, plus this is used to feed the images for aerial screensaver, Is there maybe a way to backup just my settings, (if the worst comes to the worst, I could wipe the cache and maybe use the external HD to reload the settings.

Obviously this is something I should have done ages ago but I wasn’t ready for the black screen.

Appreciate any help and guidance chaps…

cheers, sadsack..
