Equiso android stick

is there any way I can install the latest version of kodi (16 Jarvis)on my android stick? It is running a 4.0 and the kodi on google store is not compatible with my stick. I download the apk file and when I try to install , I get a prompt say parsing error. I am able to install kodi but the version 13 through spmc app on google store. Is there any way I can update/upgrade kodi from within? Or did I a shitty android stick? Lol is there any way to upgrade my stick?
