Kodi turns system volume up

I have searched the forums, searched google, apparently I’m the only person having this problem. When I’m watching videos in kodi, whether through a video add-on or a local video…. when the video starts it turns the system volume up. When I pause the video and walk away for awhile, then come back and unpause it, it turns the system volume up. When it changes video to the next video it turns the system volume up. It’s really annoying and loud and does it on EVERY video change. I look at the system volume thing when a video starts and can see the volume turn up several notches every time. No clue what the hell is going on here. BTW, I’m using debian and kodi 16.1
