I am trying to set up a basic Kodi interface for our main viewing TV. There are some great builds out there for enthusiasts but I just need very basic interface for my wife and grandchildren to use.
I would like to reduce the menu items on the crossbar to:-
Movies (downloaded and ripped movie files)
Kids Movies ( Preferably displayed according to Film Classification/Rating or as last resort in a separate directory)
Home Videos (Taken on camera and camcorder)
Music (as existing)
Pictures (as existing)
TV Shows (Box set TV shows downloaded or ripped from DVDs)
YouTube (direct link to You Tube possibly with subscribed channels)
In Krypton you can turn off Menu items in Skin settings which is great but I cannot find a way to actually re-name the menu items e.g. from Videos to Home Videos.
Also is it possible to limit the categories displayed under the Menu option Videos to only show the relevant media source and not TV Shows, Files, Playlists, Add-Ons etc etc.
From what I can make out the ethos behind Kodi design appears to treat all videos (local files, streamed content and home recorded files) all as one media type rather than compartmentalising them with their own menu. There may be very good reasons for that which as a non developer I do not understand so apolgies in advance if I am being thick 🙂
Firstly is it possible for an end user to configure what I need or does this require specific development or coding skills?
Alternatively are there builds availble that will allow this degree of customisation of either Jarvis or Krypton?
Many thanks
Fozzie
