update or not update?

Hello. I just bought an MX 3 Smart Quad Core 4K Android TV Box 2GB RAM 8GB ROM. It came with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and Kodi Isengard. I think I heard somewhere that if I update one or the other or perhaps both then Kodi will not work anymore. The box and Kodi work fine right now. I want to know if it’s a good idea to upgrade to Kodi Krypton and/or Android 6 if possible.
