My Google Nexus Player “upgraded” to Krypton and after having to completely re-install it (either the MythTV PVR Plugin or the Metropolis skin I was using causes it to get stuck at the Addins upgrade process) I found that live and recorded TV are unwatchable. It might run smoothly for a few seconds then the video will get very choppy or just stop working for 5-10 seconds. I checked the Interlace option and it is greyed out and set to “Off”, so it appears that there is no hardware acceleration and no ability to turn it on. My PVR backend is MythTV and the TV is normal OTA mpeg2 as far as I can tell.
At this point I went back to 16.1 and everything works perfectly. I read about issues with the AMLogic firmware devices (and the complaints about how crappy they are) but those don’t seem relevant to the Nexus Player.
Anyone have any ideas how I can fix the performance issues with 17?
