upgrade to kodi 17

Have purchased a box specifically to download/upgrade to Kodi 17, box loaded with 16.2 Isengard. Have tried to download from the official kodi site on playstore but cannot am constantly getting a parse error, have also tried to download app from Kodi TV but app downloads but will not install. Have looked at various sites for ideas. Allow third party downloads is turned on, is it safe to delete cache and data from playstore (one of suggestions). Box is latest Andoid 5.1 4K, have used this companies previous boxes without problems for 2/3 years. Any suggestions will be appreciated. (Box was fully loaded, have performed a factory reset, no use, would a complete uninstall and reinstall of kodi work?). Ta again.
