Issue with H.265 video and HD audio

Hi there,

I’m running Kodi/OpenELEC on a dedicated box with Core2Duo E6320, Radeon HD 6450 and 4G RAM. Pioneer VSX-924-K is the Receiver. Most of the 1080P H.265 encoded MKVs (using HandBrake) are very jerky, mostly next to impossible to play. I also don’t get any sound at all (or just stereo) for DTS-MA or Dolby ThueHD if I enable PassThrough. If I disable the “Pasthrough”, Receiver reports that as PCM audio on the display. Interestingly, any animation film plays just fine (but with the same audio issue as mentioned above).

The same file plays just fine on my MacBook Pro using VLC. According to AMD, Radeon HD 6450 supports all the HD audio:

  • Output protected high bit rate 7.1 channel surround sound over HDMI or DisplayPort with no additional cables required
  • Supports AC-3, AAC, Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio formats

Any idea why it’s not working? I’d really appreciate any help anyone can offer.

Best,
San
