PUSHING USERS TO 17.1?

I have 16 on an android box and a pc with 17.1.
Seemed few days ago the excellent links (IMHO Gvideo etc) stopped suddenly (on 16). They dont show up on android ,but better links do on PC with 17.1? Is this just to maker sure ppl upgrade to Krypton? Or am I missing something?
I will be sure to upgrade to Krp! But wondered why…just curious?
