Update Kodi

Hello everyone, I have kodi Jarvis and am looking to update to Krypton on the amazon firestick. Will I need to do a reset on the firestick and then re install kodi or is there a way to update without resetting the stick? kinda new to all of this but would like to know more about this. Thanks in advance
