Hello,
as the title says, I am pretty new to rpi/SoC devices. I mainly bought rpi to see it’s performance with openconnect to see if it can deliver me enough speed. Openconnect implementation is good, however, RPi is not strong enough to get over 40Mb/s with aes-256-gcm sha256 with tls.
After I convinced myself that rpi is not good enough for faster connections, I decided to use it elsewhere. I have servers with i7/i5 cpu’s and the only thing I could imagine to with rpi was to make a mobile tv box out of it.
I tried raspbian which actually is very good as I could still use it as a vpn gateway/wan. However, on raspbian additional gui sessoin is started and it takes more resources than OSMC.
After I made all tests, I was not very satisfied and though, rpi is not good enough for being tv box. Still, I wanted to give it a try and to see what some experts did build.
I tried osmc which amazed me pretty fast. The first thing was, choosing wireless connections as well as bluetooth works, raspbian did not even show me all SSID, actually only 1,2 out of 10-15. OSMC worked flawless, without any issues.
After media library and rest of those playfull features showed up to work perfectly, including blue rays and x26x codecs. I tried some addons and was a little bit disapointed. Many addons dont work and there is no specific description why it happens but they are still available over the stable branch.
I tested some iptv plugins and pvr, where only TV-Headend seemed to work. Ok, 1 working is still enough for me.
Then I tested some iptv. I saw that many plugins do work differently and most of them are indeed pretty buggy. I tried as last integrated IPTV client, took me maybe 5 min to set it up until channels showed up. Difference was amazing! I am former dev of enigma and one specific softcam. IPTV client seemed as the only one who works with transport streams as it should. Channels switch imediatelly, they don’t hang and buffer information which is not required and so on… there are a lot good things.
After 2 days usage of iptv client, my wife was that amzed, she requested one for her. I bought another RPi, put osmc on it and she was very happy.
One week later, she told me that IPTV client is not working anymore, it does not load channels. I switched my rpi on and experienced same issue.
I did read that it seems to be known issue that IPTV client suddenly stops working and then everybody starts to blame somebody else. To be honest, I did not find specific threads pointing me to the solution or even what could be wrong. If this topic is so well known, please share some links where this issue has been solved.
PS: I kindly ask moderation to remove any post/discussion regarding piracy. I write this explicitly because of this post: https://kodi.tv/article/piracy-box-selle…lling-kodi
Regarding this specific post, I will share my opinion: Do not make same mistake as Dream Multimedia did when they placed timebomb and tried to push standards on what is legit and what is not legit, that was their end on the market. Kodi is great product which came up after years of hard work.
