Version upgrade nightmares

I need to figure out what I’m doing wrong. My computer is a Dell Windows 7 based laptop. Yes, I have voraciously resisted upgrading to Win 10. I’ve been running Kodi v16 and now because it say I HAD TO, I’ve downloaded and executed the install file for Kodi 17.1. After having done so I attempted to launch the application and NOTHING happens. My cursor spins for about 5 seconds and then nada. Through the Control Panel
I have “Uninstalled” the application a couple of times.I have installed it both on my C:\ drive and D:\ drive and neither one works. I am allowing the “standard” installation to install, I’m not trying to tweak it in any way.. Anybody got any suggestions?? The ONLY thing I can think of is version 17.1, can it run on Windows 7?
