Is Kodi for me?

In light of the important thread above “READ THIS IF HAVING PROBLEMS WITH YOUR FREE MOVIE / TV SHOWS / IPTV STREAMS?”, I am not sure if I belong here. More on this below (if interested). My simple question is: Can you pause and resume kodi while watching over the air TV.

I get the Idea about the possibly of the Kodi name being used to market hardware devices. My concern is with the idea that Kodi is only for viewing media stored in the home. I am a cable cutter that now relies on over the air TV and those sources that can be subscribed to over the internet. I am also enthusiastic about the open source concept. As one who is new to this (as further explained below), I am still getting my head around the idea of front end vs rear end, PVR vs media center, Kodi vs MythTV and the place for addons.

Back in the seventies, I got my first home computer (Radio Shack) and soon after a brief interlude with time share (GE) my first desk top at work (IBM). I was making progress learning DOS (MS, PC-whatever) when they came out with windows which pretty much allowed me to get into my professional applications without increasing my understanding of operating systems and dealing with the command line. This was great for what was than a pretty busy life. Now,I am retired, in my seventies and have more free time to devote to latent interest in computers. This is furthered by the fact that I now would like access to inexpensive or free software in place of the expensive applications that were once available through my employment. More specifically I am interested in developing a media center similar to that no longer supported by Microsoft. This as a project in itself and as a means to learn my way around the Linux operating system. I originally got heard about and got interested in MythTV then recently was told to go with Kodi-newer and better. Whew, this is enough for now.

Thanks for your attention.
