Well the title pretty much tells it all, but here’s all the rest of the details that I can think of.
CPU – AMD FX-8350 4.20Ghz
Ram – 32gb
New Video Card – Asus Geforce GTX Titan X(12gb)
Old Video Card – MSI AMD R9 280X(3gb)
Kodi Version – v17.1
Video Drivers – NVidia Divers v381.65
My old card was an AMD R9 280X(3gb) and it would play any HEVC x265 file that I could throw at it with no problems or issues what so ever with or without Hardware Acceleration being enabled, but now after getting a new video card which is a Geforce GTX Titan X(12gb), now with Hardware Acceleration being enabled all of my x265 files will now only play for a few seconds then kodi’s video will hard freeze for a few seconds while the audio continues to play and then the video will catch up and start playing again only to freeze up again in a few more seconds and this just continues back and forth until kodi either crashes completely or I press stop because it’s starting to frustrate me lol… I currently have Hardware Acceleration Enabled but when I turn it off the same files play totally fine. Also the same files play just fine in VLC with DXVA2 Hardware Acceleration enabled, not sure if that matters but I figured I would mention it. I wanted to make sure that there wasn’t any issues with my installed video drivers so I cleaned all the drivers out and started fresh by using DDU v17.0.6.1 to remove all video drivers Both AMD(From old card) and Nvidia to make sure everything has been removed. I then used CCleaner to clean the registry to make sure nothing was left behind. Then I re-downloaded and reinstalled the latest Nvidia drivers (381.65) and made sure that all options were selected during install. After all that I am back where I started, all of my hevc.x265 do the same as mentioned above with Hardware Acceleration enabled, but play fine with Hardware Acceleration being disabled.
So there’s my problem, I’m hoping this can be fixed because everything I have read says that my new card supports hevc x265, so it’s kinda hard to believe that my old AMD R9 280X can play everything fine but the new card won’t.. I would like to be able to use Hardware Acceleration but I am starting to think that I might not be able to with this new card, so that leaves me wondering what are the Pros and Cons of using or not using Hardware Acceleration? I currently have kodi running off of my main PC which I also use for gaming and other things, so its not a dedicated Kodi PC, would I be at a loss by just turning off Hardware Acceleration? or should Hardware Acceleration be able to work on my current setup?
I know I’m asking a lot, so if anyone can help me out, then it would be greatly appreciated. Thank very much…
