first time user installed 17.1 and kodi wont open…

Somebody told me about kodi and downloaded the 17.1 krypton but when it wont open. look on forums for a solution but it says to delete addons27.db but it is not there. Does kodi work for 1st time user or should I download a previous version ? running on Acer Aspire amd a6 quad with windows8.1
