Kodi has stopped working

HI all , I am new at this and need some help. Just installed 17.1 on my computer, Win. 8.1 and I get the error message “Kodi has stopped working” within the first 5 seconds after opening Kodi. Any help in a fix or what I can do to correct this is greatly appreciated. Thanks to all who responds
