Failing to scan media on start-up and then hangs

I have recently upgraded to Ubuntu 16.04.2LTS. I previously ran XBMC on a previous version without any problems.
I did try installing Kodi using the built-in software installer in Ubuntu, this wanted to install version 16. The install seemed to go fine but upon opening for the first time, it scanned from files for ages and then just stopped. I assumed that it was the version that i had installed.

I then went to the Kodi Wiki page and installed from a terminal command. This installed Kodi 17.1. I still have the same problem. Upon opening, Kodi scans my media “Loading Media Information From Files” and says that it’s adding information from files and then hangs after about 15 minutes. When I go to System/events, it says that it has “failed to scan album (album name)” for ALL of my music.

I am using an Acer Aspire Revo 3600 with an Intel 1.6HGz processor. GPU 230 @ 1.60GHz
Nvidia Graphics: 3.3.0 NVIDIA 304.135
Kodi Build: Kodi 17.1 Git: 20170320-nogitfound (is this correct?)
Skin: Confluence, I have tried with other skins, same issue.
Complied: Nov 4 2012

Here’s a link to the debug log.
