Mouse slow and jerky in guide (Krypton, Estuary)

Mouse is slow and jerky when there are a lot of auto-highlighting buttons/items (like every program in the guide). This is on Estuary on Windows, on a quite competent PC. I am assuming the auto-highlighting or focus changing is to blame, since it gets worse the more buttons there are. Any ideas?
