Kodi on Ubunt

I installed Ubuntu on my NUC today. Everything went well, but now I wanted to install Kodi, which doesn’t work at all. I have found various installation instructions on the net, but they all lead to the same result: Kodi crashes either after a short time or immediately on startup. At the moment it is no longer possible to start the programme, not even after a new installation. I haven’t used Kodi for some time and am now wondering if it has stopped working? And if so, is there a sensible alternative under Linux?
