I’m an idiot.
I only click on folders to play my music. Why bother letting VLC take an hour to index when I don’t even want to see a list of artists/tracks/albums/whatever. I use my folder system to choose composer/type of piece/piece.
Turns out, indexing actually matters.
I’m not sure this helped (although it certainly didn’t hurt), but I let VLC move itself to my microSD card, where my 560GB of music resides.
Problem solved. Well, the app problem, not the idiot problem.
