An app? There is a chance the Corporate types want to make it hard for you to maintain a private copy of their media. The app on the new device might not be keeping track of sideloads from the old device. Also, this might be a recent addition to the app. I distrust Patreon more than I distrust freeware VLC. As a test, try changing the names of the media right after downloading to see if you can throw the app off the trail.
