There have been posts from users blaming VLC for high internet traffic and Developers have responded proudly that it never does so except to fulfill a user command. This new “feature” is at odds with that claim.
Now I get it, and you are right. I’ll find a solution to make it an opt-in feature.
Ease of update (though updating isn’t difficult) is your value.
It’s not difficult for you. But in some cases (Android TV for example where there is no browser) it’s not.
Remaining in control of my tools is my value.
For now, “Never ask again” should work for you. We’ll add the opt-in feature ASAP.
