VLC media player for macOS Troubleshooting • Re: vlc pauses when I disconnect AirPods

Hi vereeq,

my name is Marc; I’m just a user like you – however, maybe I can help (depends on the VLC-version you are running).
There is a setting, which lets you choose what VLC is to do when it ‘sees’ another audio-source running at the same time; we will tweak this setting, so that VLC will “do nothing” – maybe this will help you to enjoy VLC with AND without your AirPods!
Should be easy to do (and revert in case it won’t help). Here we go

1. Open VLC (no file, just the player).
2. Go to “VLC media player” (in the top menu-bar, on the very left – at least in VLC 3.0.20 ;o)). Clicking opens a dropdown-menu.
3. In this menu, click “settings”.
4. In “settings”, search for “playback behavior” (I’m translating from German, so in your language it may read a bit different). Should be the 3rd ‘block’ from the top.
5. There is a field “external music-players control” (again: May read a bit different) – click & you can choose “do nothing”.
6. Don’t forget to save your new setting (no offense – it happens to me all the time… ). Check if VLC now behaves as you wish (fingers crossed!).

I do hope this little “HowTo” helps you solve your problem! You know, I have been using VLC for many years, and sometimes there are SO many options & settings we can tweak, that even after this long time, sometimes it can be a bit confusing… GOOD LUCK!

Regards,

Marcador
