DVD menus on Google TV (and Fire TV)

My DVD library is extracted from original disks and stored on network drives.  They are stored as extracted folders with VIDEO_TS and decrypted IFO’s, BUP’s and VOB’s.  I still have all the original disks.

I have converted the movies from the DVD’s to .mkv files so they can be played through the Plex server that hosts the network drives.

I loaded Kodi to work with the network drives so I could play the DVD extras (directors commentaries, different languages, specials, hidden features, etc..).  To do this, Kodi needs to play the files as an actual DVD and have interactive menus.

Kodi v21.0 Omega did not play VIDEO_TS’s at all.  (logs showed ‘dlopen failed: cannot locate symbol “dll_fstatvfs64″‘ error).

Kodi v20.5 Nexus does play the VIDEO_TS’s, but the interactive menus do not work.  No highlight comes up.

Kodi v18.9 Leia (on Fire TV) does play VIDEO_TS’s properly.  I found an old thread that named this as a working version before updates made things go haywire.

Is the DVD menu feature meant to be broken in later releases, or will I be stuck on older versions?

If this is meant to work, what can I extract from logs to assist with finding the root cause of the issue so it can be fixed?

I’ve turned off automatic app updates on both the Google TV and the Fire TV systems.
