Regular reading or saving data from external drive to avoid standby?

My question is:
Is there any Addon that can be setup to regularly (for example every 10 minutes) makes a little reading of an external drive? Just a small amount of data (refreshing a small folder or something).

Purpose:
My external drive goes to sleep if I pause the movie for a moment and it takes a lot of time to boot up again. I’m trying to avoid that my accessing the harddrive regularly.

My system:
Ubuntu with Kodi via flathub. External drive mounted via veracrypt.

Attempts so far:
A year ago or so, I had an old version of Kodi on another system and used the Addon “Backup” to make a backup of the Kodi settings every 10 minutes. Although I tried it on various systems since then, the solution does not work anymore. Kodi crashes and my bluetooth devices weirdly stop working after the Addon tries to write something to my external drive or create a folder. I also get the sound from veracrypt that the volume was dismounted.
While there might me a permission problem, I cannot fix that issue and everything else in Kodi works fine, even the build in “backup in to seperate files” when not using the Addon (so Kodi can read and write from the veracrypt drive, just not the Addon). I really just want somethig that reads a little bit of data from the drive, if something like that exists?.
