Clicking noise when playing CD

Hi everyone, I have a USB bluray drive attached to the HTPC which plays back without issues DVD and some Bluray discs. When attempting to play CDs the music contains a clicking sound and with dts cds the music palys a second or two, it stops, re-starts and continues like this until I stop it.
I have tried on a different PC and it exhibits the same behaviour. Using Foobar I have no issues. Is there something that can be done to get Kodi to play CDs too?
