Kodi to SMB share on Xpenology box – timed out

I have been googling furiously to no avail. I am rather new to running a PI. I have an old PC with Xpenology installed on it (Synology source code modified to work on pc hardware). Box works great and is comprised of a 3TB raid hosting my movies/tv shows. Fast forward to the Raspberry Pi 3. I bought one, never had a PI before. Installed osmc/kodi. I added a smb source to my xpenology box which worked fine. I added my shares into the video section under files. It starts scanning and updating but after like 5 minutes, it just stops, says its no longer available and all future attempts to view the smb share results in “Connection timed out”. This is not a windows 7 share so I cannot adjust the lanmanserver properties to make it a better server. Xpenology/Synology is linux based. Any ideas? Should I be mapping the shares a different way.

I also run a Plex media server on the NAS and it works just fine. No idea what is happening and no idea where to find log files.

update: Every time I reboot the pi3 it instantly sees the share and starts cataloging again. I have done this about 5 times and it looks like my media library is done scanning. Should I be ok now or will this happen every time the library is updated/refreshed?

Thanks for any insight/help in the matter!
