Recommended Video Cards

Can someone recommend some video cards that work with a standalone Ubuntu system?

I installed from scratch using Ubuntu 15.04, 16.04 (.01), and 16.10, and 17.0 over 2 dozen times in the last week, following Fritsch’s guides with 4 different cards, and have issues with each.
I installed the Ubuntu server OS from iso boot USB, then setup interface, smb.conf, then installed video drivers, followed by Kodi install.

Radeon HD5770 – not supported after 14.04 (never had any problems with this card)
Radeon HD7770 – Radeon driver generates audio loop (ie: 1 gui click becomes several, video audio crackles with distortion) Designated as Kernel fault
Radeon RX460 – Radeon and AMPGPU Pro drivers generate same audio loop and CPU utilization is > 75%
Nvidia GT610 – Nouveau and Nvidia Binary drivers have excessive CPU load with Kodi (> 60% utilization), and the binary drivers used up a lot of resources.

Internet searches are long on others with similar issues, but short on solutions.

So what cards do work?
