Kodi 17 not seeing optical drive

Hi There.

I was previously running XBMCbuntu and everything worked perfectly, including playing DVDs. Kodi was 16.1.

I just did a new install, using Fedora 25 as the base, and am running Kodi 17.0-BETA7. This is on the exact same hardware I was running XBMCbuntu.

I am unable to play discs. When I put the DVD int he drive, the drive reads it, but there is no option to play the disk under “Videos”. I enabled “auto play discs” option, but the disc still doesn’t play. I have tried 4 different DVDs, all of which played no problem under my previous install.

I have confirmed the underlying OS sees the optical drive:

  • Running ‘lsblk’ shows the optical drive (sr0)
  • A ‘ls /dev’ shows device ‘sr0’ with symlinks for ‘cdrom’ and ‘dvd’
  • Running ‘eject’ ejects the DVD from the drive

It just seems like Kodi itself cannot see the drive. In addition, when I try to run one of my ‘disc’ media stubs, instead of prompting for the disc, it displays a message saying ther eis no optical drive detected.

Is there something I am missing that Kodi might need in order to see the optical drive? My hardware is a stock Dell Optiplex 780 PC.

Thanks! 🙂
