Is Dolby Digital & DTS still sufficient?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been hunting high and low for a 12V powered surround amplifier and finally found the Phonocar PH501, which looks pretty good specs wise. I’m a little hesitant though, since the only surround sound formats it decodes are Dolby Digital and DTS (and yes, Dolby Pro Logic II as well, if that counts), and these are all pretty old standards – as is the amplifier itself (launched way back in 2007 I think). How “future proof” would this amp be? I know there are new standards around, such as Dolby Digital HD and DTS HD, but I have no idea if these are backwards compatible with older 5.1 set-ups?
