Keyboard doesn’t work on startup in fullscreen

If you start kodi 17 (fresh install), the keyboard doesn’t do anything . up, down, left, right, esc, spacebar, and enter. keyboard only works in windowed mode, or in fullscreen mode after you’ve used to mouse to click something.
