Kodi Screen Dark on Android Box

hi there,
I just bought an android box. I notice that when I go into Kodi the daytime scenes are bright but the nighttime scenes are dark and I cannot make out what is happening.
I cannot find a way to turn up the brightness in Kodi. Can somebody help me fix this issue? It is getting really annoying.
I am running Kodi v16.1 by the way.
