Not sure if this is new behavior but I’ve been beta testing 17 (beta 2) and every once in a while when Kodi crashes and is restarted its configuration will be reset. My Aeon Nox skin is replaced with the new default skin. I’ll find that the skin is no longer installed, and I have to install it again. From there the skin config from before the crash is found and I’m back in business.
Ideally Kodi would not lose its skin on a crash. Is that some kind of “safe mode” type protection?
