This is not really a problem but a success story and I am curious what upgrades were made in Kodi 17 to make this finally work for me. Up until Kodi 17 I NEVER had any success streaming 4k/HEVC/H265 on my Windows 10 HTPC. I haven’t been able to find anything in the forum or wiki explaining what might have done the trick. I’m hoping one of the developers could chime in and let me know what did it. Here is what I am using in my HTPC setup:
Windows 10 PC
CPU: AMD A6 APU (Richland 6400 I believe)
8 gb DDR3 memory
EVGA GXT 960 GPU
I suspect that the revamped video player in Kodi is able to used the fixed function decoders on my GPU with hardware acceleration. Does that sound accurate or does Kodi 17 somehow make better use of my CPU to do the decoding?
I appreciate your input! Job well done Kodi team!
