Problem with Nvidia Shield TV on LAN

Hello,

As seen in this thread on the GeForce forum: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic…-boot-up-/

I have come across the same problem. First…my setup. I have a gigabit LAN wired to every room in my home. My media server is a windows 7 machine with a couple mediasonic enclosures attached giving me about 26TB of storage. The drives are pooled and backed up using Flexraid. I have recently switched from a mysql db management system to Emby. I have been using small EMachines ER1401-1402 Windows 7 PCs as the clients connected to my server. With the release of Krypton I have had to replace these small PCs for something a bit more 21st century (Krypton will not run on ERs). After much research on the current best and future-proof client type device (and with permission from the minister of finance) I purchased three Nvidia Shield TV units. Loaded Kodi and Emby and was thinking everything was great. Then all of the sudden my server started freezing, needing a reboot to get it working again, only to repeat the same cycle of freezing and reboot. I had noticed that since installing the Shields, that my server was constantly accessing the hard drives as well as causing quite a bit of cpu load on the server. Apparently, all of this activity was eating up resources that eventually caused the freeze ups. Doing a bit of research, I came across the above thread. The issue has been made known to Nvidia but as of yet, there is no cure. Thankfully, someone in that thread found that by turning off “Media Storage” in Apps, the issue could be stopped. I have done this on one of my Shields and it does seem to stop the problem. Now my questions: Does anyone know if turning off “Media Storage” will have a negative effect on anything having to do with watching my local content? Do other Android devices suffer from this problem or is this just a Shield thing that is implemented. I still have a month before I have to return them to BB and would like to know what experience others have had. Of course NVidia tech support is pretty useless. Spoke with a tech last night who said he had not heard of the issue, then when I pointed out the thread with the issue, he said there was a ticket created for the problem with no ETA of a fix.
Anyway….this may help out some others who have seen this occur. Turn off “Media Storage” in Apps.
