New User confused about Movies V Videos

Greetings….

I’ve been a long time user of Mediabrowser/Emby + WMC but have explored XBMC/Kodi many times but never been quite happy with ‘taming’ the user controls to make it as simple as Emby/WMC. Now I’ve spent some more time as I think I really need to switch away from Emby/WMC.

I like the new Krypton/Estuary version but I’m struggling with the Movie and Video Library Sections.

I have my video files stored in different root folders e.g. Ripped DVDs, Home Videos, Documentaries etc. So for example for the Ripped DVDs I place each ripped MKV file into its own folder, the folder name and MKV are the name of the movie that’s been ripped. Rips that are part of a collection (not necessarily a box set) e.g a few random James Bond Movies are placed into sub folders again with the name of the respective movie. Ditto Marvel Avengers.

I.e…….

Ripped DVDs >James Bond>Goldfinger.mkv
Ripped DVDs >James Bond>>Casino Royale.mkv
Ripped DVDs >James Bond>>Thunderball.mkv

The Video Section seems to get me the view I like because I’ve configured it to show each of my sources – Ripped DVDs, Home Videos etc which I can then select. The resulting Wall display shows all my videos and has the folders with multiple content shown correctly i.e I see the top level folder which I can then select and it expands to show what’s in that folder.

However, in the Video section with folders containing a number of ripped dvds i.e the Indiana Jones series, there seems no way to sort them in chronological order. The only option I have is Name, Size, Date, Title.

Question 1) In the Video Section when sorting videos in a folder what is the DATE field? It doesn’t seem to be the date of the released movie.

There is an option in the Movie Section to use a Sort Title but this doesn’t seem to have any affect on the videos displayed in the Video section

Question 2) Why doesn’t the Sort Title have any affect in the sort order in the Video Section?

BTW: I don’t like the Movie Section as it shows videos mixed from all my sources and seems to break up my folder collections.

Hope this is not too confusing as I’m still trying to get my head around Kodi.
