kodi 17 installed but will not launch in ubuntu 17.04

I previously had kodi 16 running on ubuntu 16.10
upgraded ubuntu with no problems to 17.04
carried out clean ups on kodi and installed latest 17 ver
it shows installed but will not launch.
what am I doing wrong
