The cache-related tags were move in advancedsettings.xml. caused a black screen when starting Kodi.
I spent all morning troubleshooting my Kodi 17 install on Raspberry Pi OSMC.
The OSMC splash screen showed up as expected. Then it just showed the dreaded black screen.
After reading through log files and the Kodi and OSMC forums, I moved the ~/.kodi directory and rebooted. Kodi started as expected, albeit with the default settings.
It doesn’t appear there are any error messages to help figure out the problem: https://paste.osmc.tv/kakadadutu
There is one warning (WARNING: VIDEO database configuration is experimental.) that is still in the log after it has been fixed.
It turns out I had modified the video cache in advancesettings.xml: https://pastebin.com/raw/sndDSVYf
I have share the music and video databases across several Kodi installations. I added logging specifically for this issue.
My changes are the old, pre Kodi 17 format: http://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO%3AModify_th…17_changes
Changing the cache-related tags to the new format fixed the black screen. I didn’t lose any info or settings in my install.
I am posting this to let the Kodi devs know rather than requesting support. I didn’t find any other mentions of this issue anywhere else, so maybe this will help some else out.
