1. (Please don’t say “latest version” but give us the exact version, from More > About.) It would be peculiar if settings became unset. But what I observe (3.6.0 Beta 2 2024-04-01) is that the video entirely restarts (so it unsets an even more crucial setting: Where you were). And it does so without switching to another app but merely using the RECENTS button. This makes the loss of viewer settings more understandable, but it’s undesirable.
I do know that, if VLC does not have the screen, Android sometimes steals all VLC’s memory, so the entire play queue is gone.
A workaround is to activate window-in-window video. I leave it to a Developer to say if this bug is known and scheduled for correction.
2. The video toolbar is not customizable like Firefox. The customizations currently available are in Three Dots > Control settings, and you have been there. Playback speed is not on the toolbar, but is on the screen when the toolbar is on the screen – but ONLY if the current playback speed is something other than 100%. If it is, you have to use Three Dots; I wish this were not the case.
