VLC media player for Linux and friends Troubleshooting • Re: VLC can not open srt files from shared samba folder

VLC does not care (or even see) if a file is remote or local, so long as the file system is properly mounted and files are accessed via the mount point. It’s as simple as that. I don’t know what you are trying to say.

I think i have explained my problem properly in my first post. VLC does not load srt files from a remote server even when i drag and drop that file from a file manager. That is on Linux. The remote server also runs Linux. VLC can play the files on that server perfectly fine, but the srt file next to that video can not be loaded. It says “subtitle track added” on screen but it actually does not do it.

If i copy and paste the srt file from that remote server to a storage device directly connected to the computer that is running VLC, i can actually load that subtitle.

So basically, videos from remote server can be played on VLC on a different computer. Subtitle files on the same server area not loaded. Can not be loaded. Only loaded if i copy and paste those subtitles to the drive connected to the computer itself.

I don’t know how clearer can i describe it.
